In May 2009 Caixa Manresa savings bank and the Barcelona GSE signed an agreement to create the Antonio Ciccone-Caixa Manresa Chair on Applied Economics. The program Chair is intended to promote world-class research and dissemination in Applied Economics and to attract international researchers. The Chair is directed by Prof.
Antonio Ciccone (ICREA-UPF and Barcelona GSE).
Caixa Manresa has invested 60,000 euros to establish the Chair position, and will provide 180,000 euros to support the Chair's activities for the years 2010-12. The Chair represents Caixa Manresa's commitment to increasing the attraction of international talent in Applied Economics to Catalonia, with the ultimate objective of reinforcing Catalonia's place among the first class research clusters in this field.
About Prof. Antonio Ciccone
 | Prof. Ciccone (MSc LSE, PhD Stanford) is a macroeconomist who joined the UPF in 1998. He is currently ICREA Professor at the UPF, Barcelona GSE Research Professor, and research associate of CREI. He is also fellow of CEPR and CESifo and the director of the Barcelona GSE Master in Economics. In 2009 he was the Chair of the Scientific Program Committee for the Annual Congress of the European Economic Association. |
Prof. Ciccone's work is markedly applied in nature. His research includes the study of productivity as it relates to economic activity; the role of international commerce in economic development and poverty issues; and an analysis of economic factors in civil conflict and democratic change in Africa.
