Application Checklist

The application process to the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics is conducted entirely online. In order to apply, you will need to create your own username and give a password to enter the system. Once you’ve got your login and password you will need to fill out the application available on this site.

 

The Barcelona GSE application system allows you to fill out the application and modify the information provided at any time before submitting. The information provided will be saved for later access within the system.

 

The Barcelona GSE staff will not consult or review the information provided until you decide to submit your application.

 

In addition to the online application, the following supporting documents must be submitted in PDF format in English:

Undergraduate Academic transcripts or mark sheets [required]

Temporary Transcript Template [pdf]

This must include the details of the undergratuate university degrees obtained (BAs, BSc, and so on) in the form of a simple certificate, transcript, or grade-sheet from your university, or your own statement showing the final (or intermediate) results obtained.**

Advanced degree information optional

Format: attach to the end of your undergraduate transcript document

If you have any Master degree you would like to include in the application, please attach it at the end of the undergraduate degee in the same document.

Curriculum Vitae [required]

No longer than two pages

Statement of Purpose [required]

Format: PDF

A 500-700 word document outlining your academic and research background and interests, as well as how you feel you will benefit from your participation in the Barcelona GSE.

Proof of English Language Knowledge [required] 

Format:PDF

An official document or certificate from one of the accepted programs. If you are exempt from the language requirement, or submitting a TOEFL score in the future, please explain this in a brief attachment.**

Additional Note optional

Admittance of candidates is not based exclusively on scores and performance. Therefore, any additional information that the candidate would like to have considered should be shared in this section.

**Please note that admitted students will be asked during registration to submit official documents to support the information supplied in the application. This includes your official academic transcript and diploma or other valid proof that you have completed your undergraduate degree, including all required coursework and credits, and, if you have supplied your GRE/GMAT score, an official score report from ETS.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students applying who are still finishing their degree will need to be in possession of their degree, or proof that you have fulfilled all the degree requirements, by the time of registration, that is September 2012. Otherwise any admission offer will be cancelled.

Letters of reference (required)

The Barcelona GSE must receive letters of reference from two referees of the applicant's choosing. 

  • Referees must upload the letters directly to the online application system. Instructions are emailed automatically by the application system to both referees once the applicant has submitted the completed application form.
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to follow up with both referees and notify them that they will receive these email instructions. 
  • It is possible to submit a third letter by email to references@barcelonagse.eu
  • The applicant will be notified automatically by email once each letter has been uploaded.

Instructions for referees:

  • It is not necessary to include any type of image (i.e. letterhead) in the document; however referees must include their full name, work address, email, and signature.
  • Referees should include the name of the candidate in the body of the letter.
  • Referees are encouraged to evaluate the candidate based on the following criteria:

    • Intellectual ability
    • Research abilities/experience
    • Work ethic
    • Motivation to face challenges
    • Capacity to work in groups
    • Propensity to thrive in new environment
    • Oral expression skills 
    • Written expression skills
    • Rate the applicant in comparison with others of his/her age and position whom you have known within the past five years. If possible indicate the number of students or employees with whom you are comparing him/her.
