| Cayetano López is full professor of theoretical physics at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He is also the director general of the energy department at CIEMAT (Research Center in Energy, Environment and Technology).
He is the author of more than five hundred articles about science, scientific policy, higher education, information technologies and energy. He has published several books, some technical and others addressed to a more general audience. He has published numerous papers on rigorous properties of the interactions between elementary particles, phenomenology of these interactions, unified theories, supersymmetry and accelerator driven systems for nuclear waste treatment and energy production. He has led several research projects in those topics supported by national and international agencies.
Professor López is former rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, member of the council of the CERN (European Laboratory of Particle Physics), and vice-president of this organization. From 1995 to 2000, he was director of multimedia R&D for the Internet division of PRISA Group, director of the company Proel SA, and vice-president of Inicia Comunicaciones SA. From November 2000 to June 2004 he was the director of the Scientific Park of Madrid, an institution promoted by universities, research centers and companies whose primary goal is the creation of new spin-offs.
