 Biography:

Josep Maria Antó is currently professor of medicine at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He is also the director of the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology, and director of the CIBER in Epidemiology and Public Health.

Since 1987 he has been working at the Municipal Institute of Medical Research (IMIM) where has held the following positions: chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, chair of the Respiratory and Environmental Health Research Unit, and director of IMIM. In 1994 he was principal visiting fellow at the National Heart and Lung Institute (London, UK).

 Professional affiliations:

Professor Antó has been a member of the advisory and editorial boards of several journals including the American Journal of Epidemiology, Thorax, European Journal of Public Health, and the European Respiratory Journal.

 Awards:

Among other awards and distinctions, he has received the “Cournant Lecture” (European Respiratory Society, 1994), the Narcis Monturiol Medal (Generalitat de Catalunya), and the Manuel Tapia Conference (SEPAR, Society of Pneumology).

 Research interests:

His research is focused on the epidemiology of asthma and COPD with special interest on the environmental determinants and prevention of these diseases.

His scientific production includes about 180 research articles mainly in leading journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, and The Lancet.
