 Biography:

Joan Rodes holds the Chair of Medicine at the Universitat de Barcelona and is head of the hepatology unit at the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona. He is also director general of the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona and director of the “Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer” (IDIBAPS). He is chairman of the advisory board to the Ministry of Health.

He is also the editor of the Journal of Hepatology.

 Awards:

Professor Rodés has received numerous awards, such as the distinction for the best researcher in the field of Hepatology in 1998, the “Canadian Liver Foundation Gold Medal”, appointed to the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in London and the “Josep Trueta” medal of merit for health by Generalitat de Catalunya. In 2000, he obtained the distinction for the promotion of university research from the Generalitat de Catalunya as an distinguished researcher, and the Gold Medal from the Spanish Society for Digestive Pathology.

 Research interests:

Alcohol and the liver, chronic cholestasis, chronic hepatitis B and C, cancer of the liver and cirrhosis of the liver

As a result of his research, Professor Rodés has published 403 original articles, 93 chapters of books and directed or co-directed the publication of 28 books.
