Lluís Torner

Lluís Torner is a professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He is the founding director of the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), Barcelona. He is also a member of the Scientific and Technological Advisory Council, the National Foundation for Research and Technology (FECyT), of the Spanish Government, and a member of the Board of Directors, European Physical Society/QEO Division.

Professor Torner is a member of many working groups for the Spanish and Catalan ministries of Education and Science. He has participated in numerous international promotion committees in US, European and Australian Universities. He has served on a variety of international review panels and advisory committees for international funding agencies.

Professor Torner is a fellow of the Optical Society of America.

Professor Torner is a recipient of an Iberdrola IP Award.

He conducts research and education in photonics, applications to nonlinear optics, all-optical telecommunications, and optical solitons.

His contributions have been included in the Optics of the Year special issues of Optics and Photonics News in 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2006.
