15/07/2009 GSE Attracts More International Students With Increased Scholarship Opportunities Thanks to the support of its sponsors, the Barcelona GSE is able to offer top students from around the world approximately 40 scholarships in the 2009-2010 academic year. The increased availability of scholarships each year makes it possible for the GSE to attract larger numbers of top students from around the world. The 127 graduates in the Class of 2009 came from 30 different countries. As of July 15, the number of confirmed students for 2009-10 has already swelled to 173, a 36% increase in class size from last year, with students from around 40 countries. The countries outside Spain with the greatest number of students to date are Germany, Italy, Mexico, the US, China, Turkey, and Iran. New agreements signed in spring 2009 with “la Caixa” Foundation and BBVA Foundation will add 19 full-tuition scholarships to the GSE’s previously existing 18 merit-based tuition waiver grants. In addition to covering the full tuition of the master program, the new scholarships include a monthly stipend for expenses during the student's stay in Barcelona, medical insurance, and round-trip airfare from the student's country of residence. The partnerships that the Barcelona GSE maintains with all of the prestigious companies and institutions that sponsor scholarships at the School affirm the sponsors’ belief in the high quality of the Barcelona GSE and their vested interest in bringing top students to study in the master programs as part of their corporate social responsibility actions. More about the new "la Caixa" Foundation and BBVA-GSE scholarships An agreement signed in April 2009 between “la Caixa” savings bank Foundation and the Barcelona GSE set up 14 full tuition scholarships for excellent students from developing and emerging countries to study in one of the School’s master programs. These scholarships are designed to give students the opportunity to gain a top master degree so that they can later contribute to the economic growth of their native country.
The “la Caixa” Foundation scholarships are merit based, and target students from emerging and developing countries with excellent academic backgrounds who intend to work in their home countries at the end of their professional training process. By sponsoring students from these countries, “la Caixa” and the GSE affirm their commitment to attracting and training the most talented young people from around the world, and to fostering a global student community that comes from many different backgrounds and promotes an environment of mutual learning.
This initiative is a direct complement to the GSE’s other big program: the BBVA Foundation-GSE scholarships for Latin American students. Signed in March 2009, the BBVA-GSE program consists of five full tuition awards designed to bring the best and brightest Latin American students to study at the School. Two of the awards are especially for Mexican students and the other three are open to students from the rest of Latin America. Recipients of the scholarship will pursue their studies at the Barcelona GSE’s six master programs in economics and finance, where they will have ample opportunities to maximize their potential. 2009-2010 Scholarship Sponsors include: | |
