Program Overview

Skills acquired in this master program

  • Health technology evaluation and a critical appraisal of current methods
  • Identify and integrate ethical issues in health technology evaluation as well as in health policy
  • Policy-oriented decision-making, both in the short run (e.g., pricing, reimbursement of pharmaceutical drugs) and in the long run (e.g., R&D incentives)
  • Compare and assess the performance of different health systems
  • Graduates in economics, business administration, engineering
  • Junior scientists and consultants with some background in economics looking for advanced tools in health technology evaluation and health policy
  • Aspiring PhD students looking for a rigorous master program in health economics
Minimum academic requirements for the Health Economics master:
  • Background in statistics and econometrics (basic level)
  • Knowledge of microeconomics (basic level)

The master program in Health Economics and Policy will be offered for the first time in the 2011-12 academic year. Alumni outlook data will be available in Spring 2012.

Program details and structure

Language of instruction: English

Structure: 9 months (3 trimesters), full time

Tuition: 12,000 € 

Campus: Fall and Spring Terms - Ciutadella (UPF); Winter Term - Bellaterra (UAB)

Degree awarded: Master Degree in Specialized Economic Analysis (awarded jointly with UPF and UAB)

 

All Barcelona GSE master degrees have been recognized by the Catalan and Spanish Education authorithies within the framework of the Bologna Process (in Spanish, “Master Universitario o Master Oficial”).
