Language learning One of the best ways to enhance the cultural experience of living abroad is by learning a foreign language. Catalan is the language of Catalonia. It is widely used in Barcelona and is the co-official language with Spanish, which is also widely used. The Barcelona GSE, through the UPF and UAB, offers courses in these languages and encourages students to take full advantage of the language learning resources available to them. The Programa d'Ensenyament d'Idiomes (PEI) is the UPF's Language Center. The PEI offers preparation courses for official certificate and diploma examinations. In Catalan, the certificat de la Comissió Interuniversitària de Formació en Llengua Catalana (CIFOLC) and in Spanish, the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE).
