LECG (Brussels) | | "My work focuses on using economic analysis to provide advice in competition policy cases. I have worked on abuse of dominance, merger, state aid and cartel cases before the European Commission and national competition authorities; covering a range of industries including banking, telecom, tobacco, airlines, satellite navigation, electrical distribution and steel industries." | | Jake Morris '09 Associate RBB Economics | | "I am currently working on a merger in the pharmaceutical industry between two of the largest global players. It basically involves defining relevant markets and determining how much market power would be held by the combined entity in each of them following the merger. This allows us to identify those markets that are likely to cause competition concerns, with the next step being to take a closer look at the validity of those concerns per market. As the analysis covers a broad spectrum of markets across a large number of countries, it is a highly data intensive project with a relatively long duration. A particular challenge here is being able to coordinate to collect sufficient data on a global scale and build up a reliable database as the foundation for further analysis." Eye on Alumni Feature |
| Fabiana Tito '08 Assistant Economist UK Competition Commission | | "I have had a variety of work experiences since graduation. Right after finishing the Master I began a three-month internship at LECG. My tasks were to help construct a huge dataset, collect information on that particular sector, assemble its main regulations, and perform some econometrics analysis in Stata. I also presented two topics at the weekly Friday Lunch Seminar, one about Demand Estimation using the Almost Ideal Demand System (AIDS model) and the other on price discrimination on the European Car Market. In October I joined RBB Economics Consultancy as an associate to assist two partners. I conducted research in literature and economic theory, and in doing so I came up with a good reference that we ended up implementing as our main argument on the project. Now I am working at the Competition Commission in London doing research work in merger guidelines." | | Annemiek Wilpshaar '09 Chief Economist's Team DG Competition European Commission | | "I currently work in the Chief Economist team of DG Competition at the European Commission in Brussels. I am very much enjoying the job. On a daily basis, I develop arguments based on solid economic theory and I carry out analyses in relation to antitrust cases." |
