In the 2009-10 master programs, 14 Barcelona GSE students from 12 developing or emerging countries have received full scholarships sponsored by the "la Caixa" Foundation.

In the 2009-2010 academic year, the Barcelona GSE will welcome 19 new affiliated professors.

The Barcelona GSE is pleased to announce that it will be the organizer of the European Economic Association and Econometric Society European annual meeting (EEA/ESEM) in 2009. The announcement was made at the conclusion of 2007 EEA/ESEM joint meeting, which was held the last week of August in Budapest, Hungary.

The joint European meeting of the European Economic Association and the Econometric Society (EEA/ESEM) was held in Budapest, Hungary, from August 27 – 31, 2007. The meeting featured the work of leading scholars in economics, including many professors and researchers from the supporting institutions of the Barcelona GSE.

The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics ranks between 2nd and 3rd in economics research output in continental Europe when the research of its founding universities, the UPF and UAB, is combined. 

Barcelona GSE affiliated professor Salvador Barberà has been named the 2007 winner of the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation award. Professor Barberà is Director of the Barcelona GSE Msc in the Economics of Science and Innovation as well as Professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Numerous prestigious companies have endorsed the Barcelona GSE by pledging both scholarships and internships to the school's new masters programs: the Msc in Competition and Market Regulation and the Msc in the Economics of Science and Innovation.

The Barcelona GSE Clusters Summer School and Banking Summer School were held from June 25 - July 6, marking the school's first official academic activity. The acclaim received from both participants and professors foreshadows the success of the four masters programs that will begin in September.

The ninth edition of the Barcelona Macroeconomics Summer School was held from June 18 - 29, 2007 at the Ciutadella campus at Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

The Seventh Annual INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section Conference took place at the Ciutadella Campus at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra on June 28-29, 2007.

Six researchers whose scientific contributions have fundamentally benefited society – among them Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professor Joan María Esteban – have been announced as the 2007 winners of the Rei Jaume I Prize.

On June 15th, Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professor Robin Hogarth was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Lausanne in recognition of his contributions to the body of research in behavioral economics.

A workshop titled “Matching: Theory, Applications, and Experiments” took place on June 8th and 9th at the Bellaterra Campus of the Barcelona GSE, which the School shares with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC).

On June 8th and 9th, the Center for Research in International Economics (CREI), one of the Barcelona GSE founding academic institutions, hosted a conference titled “Financial Crises: Past, Theory, and Future”.

Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professor Vicente Cuñat and Columbia University Professor María Guadalupe were awarded the Jaime Fernández de Araoz Prize in Corporate Finance in a May 28th ceremony presided over by the Prince of Asturias.

On May 30th, the Barcelona GSE, in conjunction with the UPF Department of Economics and Business and the Comisión del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones (CMT), presented the latest edition of the Regulation and Competition Seminar Series featuring Professor Martin Cave (Warwick Business School), who shared his paper "The regulation of access in telecommunications: a European perspective ".

On May 25, the Royal Academy of Pharmacy in Catalonia hosted the International Conference of Pharmacy with the theme "Opportunities and Threats for Europe: Health, Pharmaceutical Innovation, and Copies and Falsification of Drugs". Professor Salvador Barberà, Director of the Barcelona GSE Master in the Economics of Science and Innovation (MESI), announced new Novartis-sponsored full tuition scholarships.

Harvard economist and Barcelona GSE Scientific Council member Oliver Hart visited the Ciutadella campus of the School on May 22 to speak on "Hold-up, Asset Ownership, and Reference Points ". The lecture was part of the Microeconomics and Finance seminar series organized by the UPF Department of Economics and Business, one of the Barcelona GSE's founding academic institutions.

On May 17, Washington University Professor Michele Boldrin spoke at the CREA Barcelona Economics lecture organized by the Reference Center in Analytic Economics (CREA ), the sister research institution of the Barcelona GSE, and sponsored by Banc Sabadell.

The graduating PhD students of the UAB and UPF Economics PhD programs – both of which are reference doctoral programs of the Barcelona GSE – have accepted prestigious job offers for the coming academic year.

The Barcelona GSE is pleased to welcome 10 new tenure-track assistant professors to the faculties of their founding universities: the Unit of Economic Analysis of the UAB and the Department of Economics and Business of the UPF.

On Monday, April 30, MIT Economics Professor David Autor spoke at the Cuitadella Campus of the Barcelona GSE as part of the Seminar as part of the CREI Macroeconomics and UPF Labor and Public Finance Seminar Series.

Drawing on the 14 years of experience of the Graduate Program in Economics, Finance and Management (GPEFM) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, graduates of the MSc in Economics and the MSc in Finance consistently prove to be highly competitive candidates in both the global labor market and in application to top PhD programs.

The official launch conference of the European Research Council (ERC) on February 27-28 in Berlin commenced a new era of excellence in scientific research in Europe.

Many of the Affiliated Professors of the Barcelona GSE are recipients of grants from three prestigious programs designed to attract prominent and promising researchers from abroad: the ICREA Program, the Ramon y Cajal Program, and the Juan de la Cierva Program.

Jordi Gali, Director of CREI and Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professor, tops the list of most productive Spanish researchers from 1990-2004, according a study included in “Publishing Performance of Spanish Academics: 1970-2004” by D. Rodriguez (Spanish Economic Review, 2006).

Albert Marcet has been named the new President of the Spanish Economic Association for the 2007-2008 term. Marcet, Professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Research Professor at the Insitute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC) and at the Center for Research in International Economics (CREI), and Affiliated Professor at the Barcelona GSE, will be the 10th president of the the society.

This January, researchers from top academic institutions in Spain began an ambitious project that aims to consolidate and enhance the excellence of economics research carried out by them through various initiatives, including the support and promotion of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics.
