Barcelona GSE Inaugural Ceremony Set for October 15

The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics will be officially inaugurated during a ceremony set to take place October 15, 2007 at the school's Ciutadella campus at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
The inaugural lecture will be delivered by Joaquín Almunia, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs and Honorary President of the Barcelona GSE. The ceremony will be presided over by the President of the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, José Montilla Aguilera. It will also be attended by the Minister of Education and Science of the Spanish Government, Mercedes Cabrera; the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Catalan Government, Antoni Castells; and the Minister of Innovation, Universities and Enterprise of the Catalan Government, Josep Huguet.

Professor Andreu Mas-Colell, Chairman of the school, says "the inauguration of the Barcelona GSE is an important event in the life of the school. It will be a moment to reflect on all the hard work that resulted in the successful creation of the school, as well as a celebration of the very bright future that awaits both the school and its graduates."

The event will bring together many supporters and friends of the Barcelona GSE, which is promoted by four academic institutions - Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Institute for Economic Analysis (IAE-CSIC), and Center for Research in International Economics (CREI) - as well as from private institutions and the "Consolider-Ingenio 2010" excellence initiative of the Spanish Government. The unique combination of public and private support provides the school with deep roots in Barcelona's academic and business communities and guarantees the future success of its master programs.

The ceremony will also be attended by the members of the Barcelona GSE Board of Trustees, who will hold their annual meeting in Barcelona on September 28.
