Certificate of Residency and NIE Card
Certificate of ResidencyOnce you have a permanent address, you will need to visit your district's Citizens Services Office (Oficina d'Antenció al Ciutadà) to request a Certificate of Residency (certificat d'empadronament). You will need this to register at your local health clinic (CAP) and to complete other paperwork. You will need your signed lease to get this certificate, so make sure you get a copy from your landlord. | Within 30 days of your arrival in Spain, you must apply for authorization to stay for the completion of your studies, as well as the proper student resident ID card (NIE) from the Immigration Police Department in Spain. | If you are an EU citizen planning to stay in Spain for longer than 90 days, you must register at the police station within 30 days of your arrival. |

This is very important so that you can get help in case of an emergency, such as having your passport stolen.
