Max Bode
Research Fellow

Harvard University

harvard

"I am a Research Fellow at Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD), a research program within Harvard's Center for International Development. EPoD, formerly MDI, produces microeconomic research directed at shaping policy in developing countries. All of our projects are conducted abroad and thus the job is an exciting mix of microeconomic policy design, econometric analysis and fieldwork. The projects cover a wide range of subjects such as microfinance or the design of environmental auditing schemes. The International Trade, Finance and Development master program prepared me very well for this job, as I apply the skills I learned in class every day. Also, outside the classroom, the faculty at the Barcelona GSE never hesitated in taking time to give career advice or share their personal take on the world of economics."

Fábio Sola
Research Analyst

The World Bank

worldbank

"As a Research Analyst for the World Bank, I am responsible for the issuance of a daily and a monthly report on Brazil’s economic activity, which is targeted for Bank staff. For the short-term, I expect to be allocated for operations with Brazilian states and municipalities as the Bank seeks to provide assistance regarding fiscal sustainability at the subnational level. In the long run, I would like to keep working with development financing and possibly get involved with international cooperation aimed for sustainable economic growth. I believe the Master in International Trade, Finance and Development gave me the analytical tools I need to evaluate events in the Brazilian and global economy. Moreover, it gave me a greater understanding of the drivers of development and introduced me to the development community."

"I started at the OECD in a trainee program for Barcelona GSE graduates. I was promoted to my current position in January 2011. As a policy analyst, my main task is to provide support to the Working Party on Innovation and Technology and the Committee for Scientific and Technological Policy (CSTP), in particular in issues that are of interest to OECD member countries. Recently, these include the role of demand-side innovation policies, commercialization of knowledge and the transition to a green growth path." Eye on Alumni Feature

"While at Barcelona GSE, I focused my coursework on Economic Growth and Development with the hope of pursuing a career in an international non-governmental organization (INGO) working to bring meaningful change to people living in emerging and developing countries. After completing the master program, I spent some time interning at local non-profit, non-governmental organizations in Nicaragua and Haiti and recently joined a renowned INGO working to provide a preferential option for the poor in healthcare. In my current position at Partners In Health, I am responsible for delivering financial and programmatic support to our Russia and Kazakhstan-based teams."

As a member of the Reporting Team I’m working mainly using my quantitative abilities creating datasets and elaborating statistics that could be useful for the evaluation of the projects financed by the EEA Grants scheme. In addition, I’m also helping the Monitoring Team with the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the projects at risk."
