Dr. Eduard Vallory

Eduard Vallory has been the Director-General of the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics since its inception in the summer of 2006. Previously, he was Research Fellow of Fitzwilliam College at the University of Cambridge (2004-2006), and he served as Chief of Staff of the Ministry for Universities, Research and the Information Society of the Government of Catalonia, with Minister Prof. Andreu Mas-Colell. Among other responsibilities in the Ministry, Eduard Vallory was in charge of coordinating the building process for the Catalan Universities Act (2003). He also contributed to the launching of new research institutions and infrastructures in Catalonia, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the public agency in charge of Telecommunications and Information Technologies. He holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences (Universitat Pompeu Fabra), an MA in Social Sciences (University of Chicago), an AMP (IESE Business School), and BAs in Philosophy and in Journalism (UB/UPF). His PhD dissertation was entitled ‘Global Citizenship Education,’ and the PhD Committee Chair was Prof. Federico Mayor Zaragoza, former Director of UNESCO. Eduard Vallory has been a columnist for several newspapers on political analysis and has written and collaborated on books about citizenship, education, civil society, and participation. Among former civic responsibilities, he has served as International Commissioner of the Catalan Scouts & Guides, Chairman of the Youth Council of Catalonia, Chairman of the Josep Carol Foundation, and Marshall Memorial Fellow (German Marshall Fund of the United States).
