INFORMS Pricing and Revenue Management Conference Held in Barcelona

The Seventh Annual INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section Conference took place at the Ciutadella Campus at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra on June 28-29, 2007. The event, which built on the great success of the previous six INFORMS RM Section conferences, drew both practitioners and academics seeking to keep abreast of the latest scientific developments in pricing and revenue management.

The interdisciplinary conference featured talks in pricing and revenue management from various disciplines, including Operations Research and Management, Marketing, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics and Data Mining. Industries represented included airlines, hotels, rental cars, cruise-lines, event ticketing, manufacturing, advertising, e-commerce, and others.

This year's conference featured presentations by 63 academic and industry leaders in the field of revenue management. The conference commenced with an opening speech by UPF Professor and Barcelona GSE Chairman Andreu Mas-Colell, who used the opportunity to point out the strength derived from the interdisciplinary nature of the UPF Department of Economics and Business as well as introduce the Barcelona GSE.

The first day of the conference features an afternoon keynote speech in Theory by Xavier Vives, IESE Business School professor and research professor at ICREA-UPF. The evening keynote speaker in Practice was Bruno Matteu, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Network Management of Air France.

The conference, which has previously been held at Columbia University (2003 and 2006) and MIT (2005), was organized by Andy Boyd (PROS), Guillermo Gallego (Columbia), Costis Maglaras (Columbia), Georgia Perakis (MIT), Bob Phillips (Nomis), Ioana Popescu (INSEAD), Garrett van Ryzin (Columbia) and Kalyan Talluri (Barcelona GSE and UPF), who is the Chair of the conference as well as a presenter at the event.

The INFORMS Pricing and Revenue Management Conference is a subdivision of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS), the largest professional society in the world for professionals in the field of operations research. The society publishes 12 scholarly journals in addition to organizing international conferences for academics and professionals.
