The Barcelona School of Economics celebrated the graduation of the ninth cohort of masters students on July 8 at AXA Auditorium. The Class of 2016 were accompanied by their families, friends, BSE faculty and staff as they received their Master's Degrees in Economics and Finance, Specialized Economic Analysis, or Data Science.
"The world is reliant on people like you"
The invited speaker was Antoni Llardén, CEO of Enagás. In his remarks, he told graduates what he values as an employer and leader of a company with operations in eight countries. "In a globalized world, I especially value attributes like initiative, open mindedness, perseverance, and especially positive attitude. The training and the adaptation ability that the Barcelona School of Economics has given you has prepared you for wherever you go. The world is reliant on people like you," he said.

Expanding the boundaries of knowledge
During the ceremony, graduates heard speeches by two alumni who are living and working in Barcelona: Miquel Masoliver '14 (Finance), now an Analyst at GVC Gaesco; and Sílvia Ariza '15 (Data Science), now Product Manager for Big Data Intelligence at CaixaBank. Both alumni echoed Mr. Llardén's message about the flexibility that their BSE training provided, and reflected on the opportunities they have had to expand into new areas of knowledge and expertise thanks to their year in the master's program.
"What we got here was extraordinary"
Two students from the Class of 2016 also spoke during the ceremony. Alvaro Pereira '16 (Economics) and Mateu Watauga Parellada '16 (International Trade, Finance, and Development) encouraged their classmates to carry forward the spirit of collaboration and the bravery to face new challenges that helped them succeed during the master year.
