Director Teresa Garcia-Milà represented the Barcelona GSE at a royal audience for Severo Ochoa Research Excellence Centers
Last month, Spain's King Felipe and Queen Leticia received the directors of those research centers that have been distinguished with the Severo Ochoa Research Excellence accreditation at an audience in Madrid.
The Severo Ochoa Program is sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. It recognizes those institutions that are defining the global scientific debate. The Barcelona Graduate School of Economics is the only institution dedicated to research on Economics and the social sciences to obtain the Severo Ochoa accreditation, both in the first edition (2011-2015) and the second (2016-2019).

Barcelona GSE Summer Forum
The Summer Forum is a series of independent workshops that bring top researchers from around the globe to Barcelona to debate the present and the future of the frontier of knowledge in Economics. More than 700 economists participated in the 2016 edition of the Summer Forum.
Severo Ochoa funds were provided to Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professors in the form of Seed Grants to support the launch or completion of a specific research project. Four faculty members supported by Seed Grants were later awarded competitive European Research Council (ERC) Grants.
Support for PhDs and Post-docs
Doctoral students in the Barcelona GSE community have had access to funding opportunities available exclusively to Severo Ochoa research centers, such as the “La Caixa”-Severo Ochoa Doctoral Fellowships. 13 PhD students in IDEA (UAB) and GPEFM (UPF) have received this funding.
Research Recognition Program
This program provides financial rewards to faculty for papers published in top academic journals. In the most recent call (2012-2015), Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professors submitted 218 publications, 27 of which were included in the top 5 journals in Economics (American Economic Review, Econometrica, Journal of Political Economy, Quarterly Journal of Economics, and Review of Economic Studies). The results of the next edition of the call will be announced shortly.
