Welcome to the Barcelona Political Economy Summer School (BPESS)
The Barcelona Political Economy Summer School will be offered by the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics from June 30 to July 11, 2014. It is directed by Patricia Funk, Associate Professor of Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Professor Funk is a Barcelona GSE Affiliated Professor.
The Barcelona Political Economy Summer School offers courses on different topics in Political Economy and is taught by leading experts in the field. The courses cover theoretical and empirical aspects and are designed to provide students and researchers with knowledge of the most recent developments in the field. During the courses, instructors are available to discuss research ideas and projects with the program participants.

The schedule of the Barcelona Political Economy Summer School is designed to allow students to participate in all courses offered. However, courses can also be taken individually.
Call for Papers
There is a call for papers for students who wish to present their work. Students are encouraged to present anything from research ideas to finished papers. If you are interested in submitting a paper for review, please make your submission to email@example.com. (Please put "Political Economy Call for Papers" in the subject line of your email.)
Please note that the deadline for submitting papers is May 30. The schedule for the presentation of papers will be announced when the selection of papers has been finalized. At the end of the Summer School, participants who have presented a paper will receive an additional certificate.
To whom the Barcelona Political Economics Summer School is addressed
- PhD and master students in Economics and Political Science (or other social sciences) who want to further their knowledge in theoretical and empirical political economy
- Pre-doctoral students who are planning to pursue a research career
- Researchers (in Economics and Political Science) who wish to get up to date with the latest developments in the field of political economy
- Professionals and practitioners outside academia (e.g. officials in government and politics) who seek to deepen their academic knowledge
There is limited space in the Barcelona GSE Summer School Courses. Among the candidates who meet the eligibility criteria, the Barcelona GSE will select those with more outstanding professional and/or academic careers.

- Reduced fee: 600 € per course

Early bird discount:An additional 10% discount for full payments received on or before April 30.
Reduced fee applies to PhD/Master students, returning summer school participants and Barcelona GSE students / alumni.
Fees for the first course vary by summer school program; please check other summer school program pages for their fees.
Fees include coffee breaks and any material required for the course.
Interested candidates should send in their application form before the May 30. After this deadline, your place may not be guaranteed.
Applications will be evaluated by the program directors and candidates will be informed of their decision. A document will be attached to our response with payment information. Before applying, please read through the summer school cancellation policy and other regulations. [pdf]
At the conclusion of the Summer Schools, participants will receive a certificate for the number of hours attended. All Barcelona GSE courses require an average of twice the lecture hours for readings, pre-readings and class preparation. Interested students should check with their universities to see if these hours are transferable into ECTS credits.
