Ready to welcome the Barcelona GSE Class of 2021

We fully anticipate that we will be able to begin the Barcelona GSE Master’s programs on September 1 with face-to-face classes. It may be the case that some government and university regulations will continue to impact the way we are able to deliver courses on campus. It may also be the case that some students are not able to arrive in Barcelona by September 1 to begin face-to-face training.

Face-to-face instruction with professors in a small group setting is one of the hallmarks of the Barcelona GSE experience. These protocols and policies aim to preserve this defining characteristic of our Master’s programs to the extent possible given the circumstances, and to guarantee the highest quality of teaching and learning for students and professors.

To that end, based on the information currently available and in consultation with the professors who direct each of our Master’s programs, the following protocols and policies have been established for Academic Year 2020-21:

Course delivery

FACE-TO-FACE INSTRUCTION

• All Master’s courses will be delivered face-to-face, beginning with the brush-ups on September 1, 2020.
• If a new temporary lockdown is imposed by government authorities, distance learning support will be added for Term 1 classes.
• In the few situations that the size of the group might surpass classroom occupancy restrictions imposed by university health and safety regulations, a mixed model of face-to-face and online classes and support will be offered.
• There will be a distance learning option for late arrivals through November 6 (the halfway point of Term 1).

DISTANCE LEARNING SUPPORT FOR LATE ARRIVALS (SEP 1 - NOV 6)

• All class materials required to successfully follow the course
• Professors and TAs will hold office hours that accommodate local time zones
• Tools for collaboration and interaction with classmates

ADDITIONAL ONLINE RESOURCES (SEP 1 - NOV 6)

• Individual guidance, training, workshops, and company events organized by Barcelona GSE Career Services
• Community hangouts and other group activities
• Mental health support

Refund policy

Students who have paid the reservation fee on or before June 8, 2020 can ask for a full refund until July 1, 2020. 

Students who received notification of these policies and subsequently paid the reservation fee will have the option to defer but will not be eligible for a refund unless they are prevented from traveling to Barcelona by government restrictions or inability to obtain the necessary visas.

Deferral policy 

Students who have paid the reservation fee can ask for a deferral at any time until November 6, 2020. Payment of 50% of the tuition fee must be received by November 5, 2020 at 23:59 CET in order to exercise this option. 

Payment schedule for students who choose to defer:

• November 5, 2020: 50% of the tuition fee must be paid
• September 1, 2021: 100% of the tuition fee must be paid

Deferral is valid for the next edition of the Master’s programs only (2021-22).

Key dates

• June 8
  All confirmed students receive notification of these protocols and policies.
• September 1
  Students are expected to be in Barcelona for registration and brush-up courses. (Brush-up materials will be provided for late arrivals.)
• September 22 
  Term 1 face-to-face classes will start.
• September 22 - November 6 
  Distance learning support will be provided for late arrivals.
• November 6 
  Halfway point of Term 1. Distance learning will be discontinued. Last date for all students to request a deferral. Students who are still unable to join face-to-face will be given the option to defer or to withdraw from the program.
