I joined the Barcelona GSE just after a bachelor degree in Economics at Luiss Guido Carli in Rome and after an experience of studies in statistics at UBC, Vancouver. Currently, I am a Ph.D. student at the Department of Economics at the University of California, San Diego, where I am an active member of the econometric group while also collaborating with faculty at the Halicioglu Data Science Institute. In this last few years, I have been involved in research projects as RA and, more recently, as the first author.

Interview

The Master's in Data Science at Barcelona GSE had a positive impact from an academic and personal perspective and it gave me a strong competitive advantage as a Ph.D. student in Economics. As a social scientist, I gained a set of incredibly useful tools for research in applied fields. As a statistician, I acquired knowledge and the language useful for more theoretical-oriented research.

Today I collaborate with faculties and students in different departments and the ability to speak the different languages of statisticians, computer scientists and social scientists is a powerful tool that only this master could give me. Thanks to this experience, I learned how to come up with original research questions, how to pursue ideas, but also how to make out of failures incredibly useful learning experiences.

The support of the faculty and the probably life-long friendships with the other students made such experience incredible. I became part of a big family of incredibly passionate people and, believe me, passion is one of the best things people can hope in life. I realized that data science is not only a set of tools, but it is a new medium through which we can give an interpretation to the surrounding reality.
