Research Partnerships

In addition to consolidating the research activities of its academic units, the Barcelona GSE cultivates research partnerships with other public and private institutions in order to leverage its research community's knowledge for increased impact in academia and society.

Active research partnerships include:

A Dynamic Economic and Monetary Union (ADEMU)

Launched in 2015, ADEMU is a Horizon 2020 European research project whose objective is to reassess the overall fiscal and monetary framework of the EU and, in particular, the euro area.

The ADEMU project brings together eight research groups from leading European institutions:

Institute for Political Economy and Governance (IPEG)

Established in 2013, IPEG is the result of a joint collaboration between Universitat Pompeu Fabra, the Barcelona GSE and “la Caixa” Foundation, with the support of the Government of Catalonia. IPEG is a research center that focuses on the interaction between politics (political regimes and institutions, political order and conflict, the aggregation of preferences and interests) and economics (development, the economic cycle, redistribution and welfare).

In addition to producing and distributing research with international impact, IPEG’s strategic objectives include fostering greater integration among various parts of the social sciences in Barcelona, particularly among political science, economics, sociology and history.

Antonio Ciccone - Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera Chair on Applied Economics

logoIn 2009, Caixa Manresa savings bank and the Barcelona GSE signed an agreement to create the Antonio Ciccone-Caixa Manresa Chair on Applied Economics. The program Chair was designed to promote world-class research and dissemination in Applied Economics and to attract international researchers. The Chair is directed by Prof. Antonio Ciccone (ICREA-UPF and Barcelona GSE).

Caixa Manresa invested 60,000 euros to establish the Chair position, and provided 180,000 euros to support the Chair's activities for two academic years. The Chair now receives support from the newly rebranded foundation Fundació Catalunya-La Pedrera and represents its commitment to increasing the attraction of international talent in Applied Economics to Catalonia, with the ultimate objective of reinforcing Catalonia's place among the first class research clusters in this field.

Activities the Chair develops include:

  • Hire of research fellows
  • Young pre- or post-doctoral researchers who conduct their research in the Barcelona GSE community under the supervision of Prof. Ciccone
  • Organization of research gatherings
  • Extended visits by renowned experts
  • Publication and dissemination of Applied Economics research
