BSE Chairman Ramon Marimon to become first European president of the Society for Economic Dynamics

Prof. Ramon Marimon (EUI, UPF and BSE), Chairman of the BSE, has been elected president of the Society for Economic Dynamics (SED) for the period 2012-2015. He will be the first European president of SED, a scientific society for the advancement of economic science. The society’s journal, the Review of Economic Dynamics, has become one of the leading international journals in macroeconomics and the yearly SED meetings one of the main gatherings to present and discuss new findings, ideas and methods in macroeconomics.

About the Society for Economic Dynamics

SED was created out of the Society of Economic Dynamics and Control when Thomas Sargent (NYU & Minneapolis FED) was SEDC president (1989-1992). Since then the presidents of SED have been, in chronological order:

  • Edward Prescott (Arizona State University and Minneapolis FED, Economics Nobel Prize 2004)
  • Dale Mortensen (Northwestern University, Economics Nobel Prize 2010)
  • Thomas Cooley (New York University, Stern)
  • Boyan Jovanovic (New York University)
  • David Levine (Washington University, St. Louis)
  • Richard Rogerson (Princeton University)
The 2012 SED meeting will take place in Cyprus and is being organized by Christopher Pissarides (LSE, Economics Nobel Prize 2010).

 

About Prof. Ramon Marimon

Prof. Ramon Marimon (PhD, Northwestern, 1984) is Director of the Max Weber Postdoctoral Programme and Professor of Economics at the European University Institute (Florence) on an extended leave from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, where he is full professor. Previously he was assistant and associate professor at the University of Minnesota. He is Chairman of the BSE has been a member of the Board of BSE since the School's inception.

Former Secretary of State for Science and Technology of the Government of Spain (2000-2002) and president of the Spanish Economic Association (2004), Ramon Marimon is fellow of the European Economic Association and Chair of its Standing Committee on Research, research fellow of the National Bureau of Economic Research (since 1992) and of the Center for Economic Policy Research (since 1993). He is former co-editor of the Review of Economic Dynamics, acting associate editor of the Journal of Economic Theory, and he has served in different Expert Groups advising the European Commission on R&D and Higher Education.

His research interests include Macroeconomics, Dynamic Contract Theory, Monetary Theory, Labor Theory, Learning Theory, Political Economy, and the Economics of Science and Innovation.
